Student Paper Competition
At the 2017 AAG Annual Meeting in Boston, the BGSG hosted our 4th annual Student Paper Competition. The purpose of this competition is to promote scholarship and written and oral presentation by students in the field. Papers are invited from current graduate and undergraduate students on any topic in business geography including Retail, Real Estate, Financial Services, Insurance, Manufacturing, Transportation, Marketing, Risk Assessment and Risk Management as well as Supply Chain Management and Logistics.
The competition is open to students' at all academic levels. Papers must be based upon original work, completed as an undergraduate or graduate student, relevant to the field. Papers must be mainly written by the applicant, but having co-authors is allowed. The BGSG Student Paper Competition presents an opportunity to receive feedback on student research from leading scholars in the fields of Business Geography.
2017 Graduate competitors were:
Joshua Bova – University of North Texas – 1st place
Abstract Title - Effects of National Retail Firm Establishments on the Geography of Small Retail Business at the Local Scale: A Case Study in Denton, Texas
Joe Tokosh – Kent State University – 2nd place
Abstract Title - Creating a Shopping Mall Typology for the city of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Corporate Sponsor: Caliper Corporation (developers of Maptitude Mapping Software) was a generous financial supporter of this year’s Student Paper Competition. The prizes benefit students in higher education studying geography, with the goal to help develop business geography professionals.
